  1. About Lollipop and its manual.

  3. You have obtained a package containing the Lollipop format 
  4. and its manual.
  5.  
  6. ** If you don't have a Big TeX read carefully below **
  7.  
  8. First run Initex on the file `lollipop.tex'; this dumps a
  9. file `lollipop.fmt'.
  10.  
  11. Then run TeX (or virtex on some unix systems) with the
  12. format lollipop on the file manual. Typically you type
  13.  >tex &lollipop manual
  14. or 
  15.  > virtex \&lollipop manual
  16. Something along those lines. Starting with version 0.95 all
  17. auxiliary files are supplied, so you have to process the
  18. document only once. One reason for this is that the manual
  19. involves an absurd amount of processing. This is *not* typical
  20. for Lollipop documents!
  21.  
  22. The manual uses only Computer Modern, but there are a few
  23. lines in `manual.tex' that allow you to switch easily to Times
  24. and Helvetica on Macintosh and Unix systems.
  25.  
  26. The manual is a pretty good illustration of the power of
  27. Lollipop, but there is also a file 'address.tex' which
  28. contains example macros for an address book.
  29.  
  30. Lollipop is still under development. The manual contains
  31. some remarks about what is still to be done. If you have any

  41. Here is how much of TeX's memory the manual used:
  42.  1367 strings out of 4672
  43.  16421 string characters out of 20445
  44.  69825 words of memory out of 70656
  45.  3289 multiletter control sequences out of 10000
  46.  19 hyphenation exceptions out of 307
  47.  28i,4n,24p,185b,556s stack positions out of 
  48.   200i,60n,60p,5000b,2000s
  49. Output written on manual (60 pages, 147943 bytes).

  51. This clearly doesn't fit in the old-fashioned 64K TeX. If
  52. you don't have a BigTeX, follow the directions in the
  53. manual.tex file to process the manual in two parts. You will
  54. have to comment out once the first and once the second half,
  55. only formatting the other half. Since all auxiliary files
  56. have been supplied, this works. (Even then both halves of
  57. the manual barely fit in a 64k memory.) Otherwise formatting
  58. proceeds as indicated above.
